Neptune man accused of Monday stabbing outside of Mr. Pizza
29-year-old victim's was listed in stable condition Wednesday
A Neptune man was charged with stabbing another Neptune resident outside of Mr. Pizza restaurant on Springwood Avenue Monday.
Police arrived at the scene after 12:30 a.m. to find blood on the ground but no victim present. After police secured the scene and canvassed the area they learned a verbal altercation had taken place in the restaurant and quickly escalated outside where one man was stabbed, according to Asbury Park police Deputy Chief Anthony Salerno.
The father of the 29-year-old male victim had taken his son to an area hospital to be treated for a single serious stab wound, Salerno said.
Police later learned the name of a suspect in the incident, Joseph H. James, 36, through an investigation conducted with full cooperation from the public, he said.
James allegedly stabbed his victim with a grey folding knife, according to a complaint signed by Asbury Park police.
On Tuesday, James was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
James was transferred to Monmouth County Correctional Institute in lieu of $92,000 bail with no option to post 10 percent.
The victim underwent surgery shortly after the incident took place and was listed in stable condition Wednesday, Salerno said.
“While excellent police work was done on this case, the arrest of a violent criminal would not have happened without timely cooperation and information from the public, who came forward and worked with law enforcement,” Salerno said.
