Husband’s stolen bike recovered after wife spots man riding it
Thief was found with a crack pipe in his possession upon arrest
A locked bicycle taken from the 500 block of Bangs was recovered after the owner’s wife saw a man riding it the next day and alerted police.
On Wednesday, July 9, a bicycle owner witnessed a man later identified as Borden Avenue resident Luis Antonio Vializ, 43, unlock his $1500 bike and ride away on it in the 500 block of Bangs Avenue, Asbury Park police Deputy Chief Anthony Salerno said.
Around 10:30 a.m. Thursday the owner’s wife saw a man who fit Vializ’s description riding the bicycle in the 900 block of Main Street and alerted the police, said Salerno.
Officer Pierre Louis arrived at the location to find Vializ had allegedly abandoned the stolen bike and fled the scene on a different bike. A short time later police apprehended him in the 1000 block of Memorial Drive and found a crack pipe in his possession upon arrest, Salerno said.
Vializ was charged with receiving stolen property, obstruction of government, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was transferred to Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of $10,000 bail.
