Allenhurst police to crack down on drunk drivers
Additional patrols will target motorists who drive under the influence
The Allenhurst Police Department will be participating in an upcoming “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
Through grant finds received by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Allenhurst police will put additional officers on the road between August 15 and September 1, according to a news release from police.
The additional officers will conduct both roving patrols and fixed checkpoint stops to detect and apprehend motorists who choose to get behind the wheel of a car after drinking alcohol, the release said.
Police say the number of drunk driving arrests tends to increase at the tail end of the summer season.
“The issue of drunk driving is a constant problem throughout the year. But the end of the summer leading up to Labor Day weekend is a time when almost all police departments see an increase in the numbers of drunk driving arrests,” Allenhurst police Capt. Michael Schneider said in the release.
Police remind all drivers to always drink responsibly or face the consequences.
