Prevention network seeks service providers for health fair
Event will be held Oct. 15 on Main Street in Asbury Park
The Prevention Resource Network [PRN] is looking for service providers to set up tables for events in conjunction with the 7th annual National Latino AIDS Awareness Day [NLAAD].
NLAAD is a national event to educate the Hispanic community about the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The 2014 theme for this observance is “Engaging Youth Voices in HIV and AIDS Response.”
On October 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., PRN and the Visiting Nurse’s Association [VNA] will host a health fair on Main Street between Asbury and Sewall avenues and are looking for community based organizations, especially those with Spanish-speaking members, to collaborate to host the health fair.
Information about resources will be distributed along with incentives and giveaways. The VNA’s mobile unit will be in place for free HIV counseling and testing.
Entertainment and activities for children will be available and a raffle will be held.
Donations, including in-kind donations, are also sought for those who cannot make it on the day of the event.
For more information, contact Alice Irizarry at 732-685-7667.
The last day of Hispanic Heritage Month, October 15th, has been designated as National Latino AIDS Awareness Day. The event will also be held in Long Branch on October 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Brookdale Community College campus.
According to the Center for Disease Control, members of the Hispanic population in the U.S. account for an estimated 19 percent of people living with HIV and represent 20 percent of new infections.
