Loffredo will not seek re-election
'I wish everyone who gets elected the best of luck'
Councilman John Loffredo has decided against running in the November 2014 City Council election.
After serving over 12 years in the position, Loffredo [at right] is moving on. There are “many things life has to offer,” he said, and while he won’t be serving in an official position, he will continue his service to the community in other ways.
“I’ve enjoyed being on council and I wish everyone who gets elected the best of luck,” he said.
Loffredo’s fourth and now final term in office was cut short after voters approved a change of government referendum in the previous November election.
All five council seats are up for grabs in the nonpartisan November 4 election and voters will make a direct selection of who will serve as the city’s mayor for the first time. The current council’s terms end in December, new members will be sworn in January 7.
Loffredo was founding president of the Asbury Park Homeowners Association and has been an active volunteer in the city, participating in city-wide cleanups and other initiatives, he said. He also served as a member of the city’s planning board and as a member of the Technical Review Committee.
Keeping the city’s momentum in forward motion when it comes to development is the biggest challenge Loffredo sees the incoming council will undertake.
“There’s a lot going on in this city, but the redevelopment itself, I believe, has to continue — but like I said, I just wish them the best of luck,” Loffredo said.
