Asbury Together slate announces kickoff party
Seek input from community members on betterment of city
Asbury Park City Council candidates from the Asbury Together ticket will host a kickoff party at words! bookstore on Friday, Sept. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m., according to a campaign release.
Members of the Asbury Park community are invited to meet the Asbury Together candidates [shown above, from left to right], John Moor, Amy Quinn, Jesse Kendle, Joe Woerner and Yvonne Clayton, and share their ideas about how to help Asbury Park reach its potential.
Voters last year approved a change of government referendum, which requires a new governing body to be elected this November. Current council was sworn in July 1.
All five council seats are up for grabs in the November 4 election and it will be the first time in the city’s history voters will directly select their mayor.
One candidate must secure more than 50 percent of the popular vote to be elected mayor. If no candidate gets over 50 percent of the vote on election day, the top two candidates will go head-to-head in a run-off election four weeks later.
Incumbent Councilman Moor is the ticket’s mayoral candidate. Incumbent Quinn seeks re-election as a member of City Council. Woerner, Kendle and Clayton seek election as members of City Council.
The Asbury Together city council candidates will square off against members of the A-Team — Zero Tolerance slate, Duanne Small, Rosetta Johnson, Derrick Grant, and current Asbury Park Board of Education member Kenneth Saunders. Former Asbury Park Board of Education president Remond Palmer is the A-Team ticket’s mayoral candidate.
Incumbent Mayor Myra Campbell seeks re-election and city resident Harold Suggs has filed to run for mayor independently.
Words! is located at 612 Cookman Ave. Food and refreshments will be provided.
