Pool hours at Boys and Girls Club expand again
Club partners with aquatics company to offer morning classes
The Asbury Park unit of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Monmouth County will soon shift their pool hours back to a year-round schedule.
The club in in the midst of finalizing a contract with Freehold-based Ronin Aquatics, according to the club’s executive director, Douglas Eagles. The aquatics company will begin to offer masters and beginner swim classes at the location on Mondays, Tuesdays, and alternate Thursdays from Sept. 15 through Nov 7, according to Ronin Aquatics’ Facebook event page.
Ronin will also provide their own lifeguard staff, he said.
Due to financial reasons and a lack of necessary regular club use, Eagles made the decision to scale back the pool hours in March. Programming at the location gives summer club kids near-daily access to the pool, but when school is in session programming is scaled back as daily pool operating costs outweigh the necessity, he said.
“To have a covered pool in this community is fantastic, and we’re happy to partner with Ronin to keep it open through out the year,” said Eagles. Club kids will also have access to the pool from time to time throughout the winter, he said.
Pool hours will shift after Nov. 10, when the high school swim season gets underway, the Facebook page states.
Master’s membership costs are billed on a monthly basis at a rate of $45 per month. Daily and walk-in rates are $10 per session.

The New Jersey Race Club had previously contracted with the club to offer winter classes but ended their agreement and switched to another pool at a private location.
At the time the pool was closed between March and June, the club accepted a donation of a new filter, which Eagles said has increased the quality of the water in the pool.
Built as an outdoor pool in the late 60s, the 6-lane, 25-yard long 150,000 gallon pool was covered and became an indoor pool in the 70s, Eagles said.
The Asbury Park unit of the Boys and Girls Club is located at 1201 Monroe Ave.
