‘Haunted Hall’ will bring the ghosts of Asbury Park to life
NJ Zombies get first crack at the attraction on Oct. 4
Visitors to Convention Hall, the city’s most widely recognized waterfront landmark, can expect a good scare on select evenings throughout the month of October as they weave their way through a haunted maze on the hall’s main floor.
“Haunted Hall” promises small, dark alleys that lead to a series of ten “scare rooms.” Each room takes on a different nightmare with a different theme, but the common thread throughout the hall is experiencing your worst nightmares come to life, according to Ted Maturo, live events manager for Townsquare Media, the event producers.
“Everyone has had a dream about a monster under their bed — and we’re bringing that to life in the Haunted Hall,” Maturo said.
Groups of six to 10 people will make their way through Haunted Hall every ten minutes or so, he said. Anyone dressed as a zombie for the New Jersey Zombie Walk on October 4 will have a chance to sneak preview Haunted Hall at half the price, according to the NJ Zombie Walk Facebook page.
A lot of talk and rumor that surrounds the city’s long history, including the S.S. Morro Castle and New Era shipwrecks, and a variety of haunts rumored to call the Paramount Theatre home prompted event organizers to choose the historic location, Maturo said.
“Whether it is haunted or not, there is so much history. It just seemed to be the perfect venue for it,” he said. “It’s something fun, new and different, and people like to be scared.”
To boot, the city’s reputation as a destination on the Jersey Shore contributed to the selection, and Maturo hopes people will make Haunted Hall the focal point of their evening as they make their way to the city for the weekend.
“Asbury Park is a destination, Haunted Hall is a destination, so it works perfect together. “We’re hoping people come from all around to participate and experience it.”
If the event is successful, organizers will look to add it to the city’s list of annual events.
Tickets are $15 each plus a nominal service fee.
Children 10 and younger are not permitted inside the Haunted Hall and no refunds or exchanges will be given.
Convention Hall is located at 1300 Ocean Ave.
