A Monmouth County grand jury returned a four-count indictment Wednesday charging a Red Bank teen with the armed robbery of an Asbury Park teen, according to court documents.

Bairon Escobar, 18, faces charges of first degree armed robbery, third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, fourth degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and fourth degree possession of a prohibited weapon.

The charges stem from a July 10 incident at the Asbury Park train station where Escobar and two juveniles allegedly robbed a 17-year-old Asbury Park resident at knifepoint at the transportation center while he was walking home and then fled the area.

Asbury Park police later located the three subjects in the 1100 block of Asbury Avenue. The three had proceeds of the theft in their possession, Deputy Chief Anthony Salerno told the Sun.

Escobar was found in possession of a six-inch switch blade knife, according to police records.

Escobar was taken to Monmouth County Correctional Institution where he remains held on $100,000 bail with no option to post 10 percent.

The two juveniles were sent to the Youth Detention Center in Middlesex.
