Citywide sidewalk sale takes place Sunday
More than 30 downtown and waterfront stores will participate
With the holiday season just around the corner, this Sunday offers shoppers in Asbury Park the chance to beat the crowds and score unique gifts and artisan goods early on.
More than 30 of the city’s downtown and oceanfront shops will bring their wares out onto the streets during the Asbury Park Citywide Sidewalk Sale, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Merchants on Cookman, Bangs, Ocean and Lake avenues will sell their goods streetside, some offering discounts up to 75 percent off.
The sale is organized and sponsored by the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce.
“The downtown business owners wanted the opportunity to show off some of the new retail spots that have opened in town,” said Jackie Pappas, the chamber’s executive director.
Those spots include surf boutique Glide Surf Co., vintage clothing store Natural Habitat, Tao Massage & Spa, and Evaporate, an e-cigarette lounge and accessory store, among others.
The first citywide sidewalk sale was held in 2010 and was “extremely successful,” she said. “It’s something that we wanted to bring back, and it seemed like a great time to do it. Especially with the city well-positioned as a restaurant town.”
With the NJ zombie walk scheduled for Saturday, Pappas said she sees a “fun, family-friendly” weekend in the works for Asbury Park.
