Teen struck officer in the face with a sharp object
An Asbury Park police Lieutenant was hospitalized Thursday night after he was struck in the face by a teenager on Washington Avenue.
At approximately 10 p.m. Lt.David DeSane was in full uniform and walking to meet other officers he was training on the in the south west quadrant of the city when he noticed two persons behind an abandoned property at 1248 Washington Ave., according to Acting Police Chief Anthony Salerno.
DeSane confronted the two subjects and believed one was in possession of a handgun, he said.
A struggle ensued with one subject and DeSane was cut above the eye after he was struck by the other subject, a teenager, with a sharp object believed to be knife, Salerno said. Both subjects then fled on foot.
DeSane was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center to be treated for his injury, he said.
The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
