Bd of Ed candidates file campaign finance reports
Moving Forward ticket files late, A-Team still has not filed
Only one of the two tickets in the Asbury Park Board of Education race has filed their campaign finance reports detailing contributions received and expenditures made through Oct. 6., and that ticket filed late.
The 29 day pre-election reports were due Oct. 6. The report requires any contributions made above $300 be disclosed.
The Moving Foward ticket filed 10 days late, according to the Election Law Enforcement Commission website. Campaign treasurer Corey Lowell said she mailed the report in on Oct. 10.
According to the documents, the reports were received by ELEC on Oct. 16. They were uploaded to the website Tuesday.
“I take full responsibility, as their campaign treasurer, for the report being filed late,” Lowell said.
Candidates on the Moving Forward ticket are incumbent Angela Ahbez-Anderson, Carol Jones and Charles Smentkowski, Sr.
Their joint candidate committee reports one contribution of $1941.70 from Michael Williams of Alexandia, VA. The candidates also filed a sworn statement saying their total aggregate expenditures will not exceed the $12,300 threshold, which means they do not have to file a detailed expenditures report.
The A-Team ticket’s school board candidates filed an amendment to their initial designation as a joint committee to include the account number of their joint account on the Oct. 6 deadline, but did not submit the required finance reports to disclose contributions and expenditures.
Candidates on the ticket are incumbent Felicia Simmons, Arva M. Council and Stephen “Steve” Williams.
Simmons, who is listed as the ticket’s treasurer, did not return the Sun’s two calls for comment.
The A-Team is also running candidates for mayor and council. They include council hopefuls Duanne “King” Small, Kenneth Saunders, Jr., Rosetta Johnson and Derrick Grant and mayoral candidate Remond Palmer. Neither the joint council committee nor Palmer’s individual campaign have submitted any detailed reports as of Tuesday, according to the ELEC website.
The next reports detailing receipts and expenditures are due on Oct. 24.
The election is Nov. 4. Six candidates seek to fill three open full term positions on the Asbury Park Board of Education. Due to a change of government referendum that passed last November, all five seats on the council are up. Eight candidates seek to fill four council positions. Four candidates seek to be mayor. It will be the first time in the city voters in Asbury Park directly elect their mayor.
