Ocean Township police officers used the life-saving drug Narcan on Saturday to revive a man they found unconscious in the bathroom of a Starbucks on Route 66 in the township.

On Dec. 6 at 5:13 p.m. officers Brenden Bernhard, Raheem Carter and Timothy Kolodziej responded to an unresponsive, unconscious male located inside the men’s bathroom of the Starbuck on State Highway 66, according to a news release from township police.

Information provided to responding officers indicated the victim ingested heroin prior to being found unconscious.

Officers administered one dose of Narcan, a drug used to reverse the effects of an overdose. The victim became conscious and responsive and was speaking with officers prior to being transported to a local hospital for treatment, the release stated.

The officers credit the use of the Narcan in saving the man’s life, the release stated.

It is the department’s fourth successful deployment of Narcan to resuscitate a victim experiencing a drug overdose since being distributed to officers on June 4, 2014.
