Springwood corner set for Saturday tree lighting
Will be city's first West Side lighting ceremony
The Asbury Park Community Action Network [AP CAN] is ready to light up Springwood Park with Christmas joy.
Their “Super Safe Christmas Extravaganza for Children and the Community” will take place in the Springwood Park [at the corner of Springwood and Atkins avenues] from 4 to 6 p.m. tomorrow.
The man himself, Santa Claus, will stop by for a visit and community children will assist the tree lighting.
Live entertainment will be provided by the Macadonia Baptist Church Youth Choir, Triumphant Life Mime and Dance Ministry, St. Stephen AME Zion Church Youth Choir, Allen Chapel Praise Dancers, and the Asbury Park High School Band.
Free hot chocolate, cookies and activities for children will be available. Over 300 coats will be distributed.
Arnold Faulhaber, director of the Asbury Park Regional Re-entry Coalition, and Matt Whelan, marketing coordinator for the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce [shown above, respectively], strung the lights this morning on the three Christmas trees placed at the site.
The trees were donated by Barclay’s Christmas Tree Farm. Burke Construction donated the equipment and manpower to put them in place, Faulhaber said.
The event is sponsored by AP CAN, The Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce, Asbury Park Re-Entry Coalition, Triumphant Life Church, D. Love Photos, Face Painting by Ms. Tamara Brown, Barclay’s Christmas Tree Farm, Langosta Lounge/Kula Cafe, Burke Construction, Community Development Initiative (CDI), The City of Asbury Park, The Home Depot, Interfaith Neighbors, JCP&L.
