Convention Hall in all its haunting beauty
Paul Shappirio captures a piece of "the old world architecture of Asbury Park"
Convention Hall on the north end of Asbury Park’s boardwalk is arguably the city’s most recognizable landmark. Designed by famed American architects Warren and Wetmore, who also designed New York City’s Grand Central Terminal, the structure was completed in 1930 and has seen its fair share of moment’s in the spotlight, most notably serving as the backdrop to the Morro Castle maritime disaster in 1934.
This photograph by Tinton Falls resident Paul Shappirio captures an almost haunting composition of this great Asbury icon.
Shappirio explores photography as a personal hobby. He’s also a professional educator at the Belmar Elementary School. His photos seek the beauty of the real world in real time. He tells the Asbury Park Sun, “I was trying to capture the beauty of the old world architecture of Asbury Park.”
In short, he succeeded quite well.
