Boat runs aground on First Avenue beach
Vessel Is registered out of Rockaway Beach, N.Y.
An early morning fog lifted Wednesday to reveal a boat washed ashore on Asbury Park’s First Avenue beach.
Asbury Park police responded to a call at 8:21 a.m. reporting an abandoned boat ran ashore on the beach in front of Cubacan restaurant, according to Mike Casey, the department’s communications officer.
No passengers were found on the boat. Police ran the serial numbers in their system and found the vessel is registered to an address in Rockaway Beach, N.Y. and has not been reported as stolen, he said, and officers have not seen any signs of foul play so far.
Casey did not know the make, model or type of craft.
Asbury Park police contacted Rockaway Beach police and have asked them to locate and notify the owners of the boat. As of 11:10 a.m. they have not heard anything back from that precinct, he said.
The boat is currently being towed to a location in Asbury Park for storage, he said.
The New Jersey State Police and National Coast Guard have also been notified of the incident.
