A 54-year-old city resident was arrested on Christmas Eve and accused of shooting another resident once in the leg and robbing him in a Dec. 18 incident.

Victor Jones, Asbury Park, was taken into police custody Dec. 31 following a police investigation, according to Charles Webster, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Asbury Park Police responded to a call at 6:11 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, to the 500 block of Prospect Street where they found a man in his 40s suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. The man was also robbed of his cash, Webster said.

After an investigation, Jones was subsequently charged on a complaint warrant with attempted murder, robbery, unlawful possession of a handgun, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He was taken to Monmouth County Jail in lieu of $1,050,000 bail with no option to post ten percent as set by Judge Kathleen A. Sheedy. Bail terms also prevent Jones from contacting the victim or returning to the scene of the crime.

The unnamed victim did know Jones, but Webster did not know the nature of the relationship. The victim was transported to JSUMC where he was treated and released in the days following the incident.

Detective Michael Bonanno from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Asbury Park Police Detective April Bird investigated

The case is assigned to Assistant Prosecutor Chris Decker.
