Following yet another overnight incident where unlocked vehicles were opened and entered, Ocean police have again issued a public service announcement reminding drivers to lock their cars

Monday night into Tuesday morning unlocked vehicles were entered in the Wanamassa section of town, off the Wickapecko Drive corridor, according to a news release from the Ocean Township Police Department.

A similar message was released by Ocean police on Dec. 11, 2014, and on Dec. 19, three individuals were arrested  and accused with criminal attempted burglary after an area resident allegedly saw them trying the locks on car that were parked in the street.

Police are reminding car owners to lock up, and if possible, to install lights with motion sensors in driveway areas to deter would-be burglars.

“As always protect your property, lock your car doors, remove valuables from the interior and if you can install motion lights around your driveway,” the release stated. “By taking a few of these precautionary measures you just may avoid becoming a victim of a car burglary.”

Police urge residents to continue to call in suspicious vehicles, persons or ongoing criminal activity.
