Two Asbury Park teens soliciting snow shoveling services are facing theft and weapons charges after they opted to open a package on the porch of a Wanamassa home Tuesday, said Det. Lt. Kevin L. Faller of the Ocean Township Police Department.
Officers responded near 12:54 p.m. Tuesday to the 1400 block of Laurel Avenue in response to a homeowner’s complaint that the juveniles were observed using a knife to open a sealed package. As the two teens attempted to remove the package’s contents the homeowner confronted them and the two fled.
Officers found the two 14-year-old Asbury Park residents in the area and took them into custody. Both were said to have knives in their possession.
The teens were turned over to their guardians’ custody and the case was forwarded to the Monmouth County Family Division Court in Freehold for disposition, Faller said.
Officers Trevor Dickerson and Thomas Rant and Captain Earl Gifford investigated.
