If your preteen has an artistic side in need of honing The Collective Art Tank may have just the answer.
Starting Monday, the Bangs Avenue studio will offer “Oil Painting – 7+,” a 5-session course designed for children 7- to 12-years old.
Led by artist Heather Brown Caldazo, the art lessons will introduce children to best-practices and techniques used by the masters like Rembrandt, Monet and Vermeer. They will have the opportunity to build form using light, shadow and halftone, and achieve realism.
Based on individual levels of ability, students will work from traditional still life or photo references to create their works of art.
“We’re excited to welcome Heather Brown Caldazo to The Collective Art Tank,” said Jimmy Leslie, Art Tank co-director. “Given the ongoing success of her classes at Inspired Minds, she has proven that her skills and expertise engage and inspire children in the arts.”
In addition to co-owning Inspired Minds, a Lincroft-based art school, Caldazo works as a freelance portrait artist. Her paintings have been shown in galleries and commissioned by numerous private collections. She won The Art Alliance of Monmouth County, a state-wide juried art competition, in 2006, 2007 and 2009.
The classes will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays Feb. 23 to March 23 at the 529 Bangs Avenue studio. The $150 course fee includes the cost of products and materials.
The students will use Artisan Water Mixable Oil Colours donated by Winsor & Newton, exposing them to “high-quality art materials” and encouraging their “exploration of self-expression,” said Leslie, who is also the resident artist of Liquitex, Winsor & Newtown and Conté à Paris.
The Collective Art Tank offers art classes year-round, product demonstrations, events and exhibits. Additionally, it aims to support the advancement of professional artists by offering the opportunity to work and teach classes in its storefront studio free of charge.
