The Asbury Park City Council is expected to vote on a resolution Wednesday that will set this summer’s beach schedule and rates. The city’s beaches run from its southern border with Ocean Grove to its northern border with Loch Arbor. The city’s surfing beach runs between the two northern jetties opposite Deal Lake Drive and Eighth Avenue.
Beach passes will be required from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sunday, and on the following holiday dates: May 23, 24, and 25; May 30 and 31; June 6 and 7.
The bathing and surfing season runs from June 13 to Sept. 7, with a possibility of extension through the Sept. 12 and 19 weekends – weather permitting.
Proposed beach rates are as follows:
- $5 per person Monday through Friday
- $7 per person Weekends and holidays, a $1 or 17 percent increase over last year
- $20 per person for teen seasonal badge, ages 13 to 17
- $70 per person for adult seasonal badge, ages 18 to 61
- $20 per person for senior seasonal badge, age 62 and over
- $70 per person for hotel, motel and rooming house guests
- Free of charge for children under 12 when accompanied by an adult
- Free of charge for active duty military personnel, their dependents and disabled veterans
- $200 chair storage locker available for seasonal badge holders on a first come first serve basis.
- A NJ Transit 2015 Commuter Beach package to include round-trip transportation and a beach fee package at a daily per person rate will be announced at a later date via the transportation company’s web site, city web site, et al.
Seasonal beach badges will be availabe for purchase at the Department of Public Works Office located at 9 Main Street until May 1. Cash, check and credit card payments are accepted there. The office is open from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. After May 1 badges will be sold at the boardwalk locations but credit cards will not be accepted at those locations.
