A key member of the new mayor and council’s administrative staff announced his resignation Thursday.
In a written letter addressed to his “friends and colleagues”, 11-year city hall veteran Donald Sammet announced his last day on the job will be April 2.
Sammet [shown right] served as the city’s director of planning and redevelopment.
“I heard about his decision this afternoon and was not happy,” Mayor John Moor said. “I consider Don one of the smartest people I know.”
Moor said although Sammet’s decision came as a shock, he supported his choice to take a city planner job closer to home.
“He has two young kids. It’s a decision he made for he and his family,” Moor said. “Does it hurt Asbury, absolutely. But he will help us find a replacement and said he will be available to us.
Below is a copy of Sammet’s resignation letter:
After over eleven years with the City of Asbury Park, the time has come for me to announce my departure. My last day in my office within City Hall, will be Thursday, April 2. This wasn’t an easy decision, as I am grateful for the rewarding time I have had in Asbury Park. However, after much consideration, I have accepted an urban planning position with another New Jersey municipality.
It is difficult to succinctly summarize eleven years of experiences which I’ve shared with all of you, but please know that all of those experiences, and all of you, have helped me to grow professionally and personally.
The successes that we see in Asbury Park today, are due to the dedication and hard work of all who play a part in, and are members of this community. I am privileged and proud to have worked with all of you. Asbury Park’s strength comes from not only its history, but its people. I wish all of you the best, and this city by the sea will always be a part of me.
Donald B. Sammet, PP/AICP
