Lakehouse Music Academy is among those being honored Friday at the annual Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce Carousel Awards.

Just two years after opening its doors, the music academy is also a hub of recording studios, professionally-equipped rehearsal spaces, a retail music store, and base for music industry professionals. Their goal of creating a space to support and foster Asbury Park’s rich and historic music scene grew this year with its approval to expand into a neighboring building.

“Lakehouse aims to build a community where any musician, regardless of age, experience, and musical taste, can feel at home,” said founder Jon Leidersdorff. “Students have the opportunity to hone their skills in performance, recording, engineering, producing, songwriting, and business/marketing.”

Themed “Love Boat: Come aboard we’re expecting you,” the black-tie event will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel on Ocean Avenue. Tickets are $135.

Lakehouse is receiving the Chamber’s Economic Development award. The event also honors Kay Harris, owner of the Asbury Galleria and a local educator with its Spirit of Asbury Park award; Rich’s Autobody with its Landmark Business award; Board of Education member Barbara Lesinski with its Public Official award; and Asbury Park C.A.N.’s Pastor Derinzer Johnson and retired Asbury Park Lt. George Corbin with its Humanitarian award.

“This year’s nominees are as diverse in their experience yet uniquely connected as our community,” Chamber president Roy Werts said.
