It was a bad start to the summer season for the 25 people nabbed as part of a warrant fugitive sweep in the areas of Asbury Park and Neptune.
The sweep on Wednesday was led by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the U.S. Marshal’s N.Y. N.J. Regional Fugitive Task Force and members of law enforcement from Asbury Park, Neptune, Neptune City and the FBI, according to a news release from Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden [right].
The warrant/fugitive operation is conducted each year at the start of the summer season in an effort to decrease crime as the number of people increase in the area, according to the release.
A total of 4 individuals were arrested on criminal fugitive warrants for failure to appear on charges including weapons, theft and violation of a restraining order to criminal attempt.
A total of 21 warrants for non-payment of child support were also served and 14 individuals were arrested.
Those apprehended owed a total of $406,034.93 in non-support, according to the news release. Contempt of court and violation of parole warrants were also served.
In addition two individuals were arrested for possession of narcotics, one individual was arrested for disorderly conduct and one individual was arrested for hindering apprehension.
“The success of this operation resulted in the collaboration of all agencies from all levels of law enforcement working together.” Golden said. “Our teams surveilled areas and worked diligently to apprehend suspects. That kind of commitment and dedication will help ensure public safety in our communities.”
“This type of operation sends a message that violence and criminal activity will not be tolerated in Asbury Park and surrounding communities,” said Acting Asbury Park Police Chief Anthony Salerno. “I commend the sheriff’s office and all of the law enforcement members who participated in this sweep, on a job well done.”
