Beach Yoga/Bootcamp fees established
City Council votes Wednesday on proposed $350 fee
The City Council will vote Wednesday to create vendor fees for exercise programs along the beach.
In response to increased early morning health and fitness program requests, the City Council will establish permit fees through an amendment to its existing special events guidelines.
The city’s Director of Economic Development Tom Gilmour said recent requests include yoga and boot camp style exercise programs. Analysis of what area beach communities charge for such activities topped the list at $500.
The governing body will vote to charge $350 – a $50 application fee and $300 seasonal beach use fee. Each vendor will be required to provide insurance coverage, Gilmour said.
The special event guideline change includes a $1 charge for all events that require ‘No Parking’ signs.
The sign requirement is deemed a necessity by the Asbury Park Police Department if an event is closing down city streets. The no-parking sign fee is to cover administrative and printing costs, Gilmour said.
Use requests will be vetted through the city’s Special Events Committee with final approval determined by the City Council.
The Council vote will occur during the Regular Session 7 p.m. meeting at city hall, 1 Municipal Plaza.
