Hoagitos – latest to feature boardwalk art
Bouncing Souls lead singer Greg Attonito unveils mural Wednesday
Bouncing Souls lead singer and artist Greg Attonito will unveil his latest mural installation 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hoagitos on the Asbury Park boardwalk.
The customized art project will front along the pop-up gourmet sandwich food vendor’s Third Avenue location on the boardwalk.
“I’m pretty excited to unveil this to public,” co-owner Mark Spagnuolo said.
It was a chance encounter that led to the art installation, he said.
“I ran into him at a rock flea market and really liked his art,” Spagnuolo said of Attonito, who heads the New Brunswick-based punk rock band that crashed the music scene in 1994 with their album ‘The Good, The Bad & The Argyle.’
Together, Spagnuolo and Attonito worked throughout the winter to develop the latest mural to join the boardwalk art projects.
The three-year-old pop up is owned and operated by Spagnuolo, his wife Emma and his brother-in-law Terence McGill, all of Belmar.
Spagnuolo said Attonito will be on hand during the unveiling to chat with visitors and sell his artwork until 7:30 p.m. Food specials, like their eggplant slider, and music will set the background.
Voted a top eatery by many of the state’s media publications, Hoagitos prides itself on mixing fast food convenience with high quality fare. The team roasts their meats and uses fresh ingredients for their mini subs prepared in under a minute.
They offer five breakfast options, six sandwiches and their two additional late-night slider options will now be offered from noon to closing, Spagnuolo said.
The summer hours are from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and until midnight on the weekends.
