What happens when Asbury Park Mayor John Moor and Buddy Valestro [better known as The Cake Boss] meet up with Staten Island resident Matt Long on a sunny June day along the boardwalk?

A challenge to kick off the summer season, of course.

Valestro is the host of TLC’s Reality TV show that’s followed the operations of the family owned Carlo’s Bake Shop he runs with his siblings.20150625_130438

Long is a famed sand sculptor from Staten Island, N.Y., who for a brief time hosted his own Reality TV show on the Travel Channel.

As the three walked along the shore, they talked of the city’s history and resurgence.

“Coming back here brings back memories,” said Valestro, who grew up visiting the area during the summer season. “I’ve got to say, what a transformation.”

On Thursday afternoon, Long and Valestro presented their versions of a sandcastle to Asbury Park boardwalk visitors.

While it took Long just over two hours to create his masterpiece, you’ll have to tune into The Cake Boss to see the behind the scenes effort Valestro undertook to create his graham cracker dusted castle.

“He can do anything,” said shore visitor Shirley Nixon of Long Island of the Cake Boss. “He makes some beutiful cakes.”

Cake Boss is kicking off its seventh season this September.
