Tax abatements & Springwood Lease extension on agenda
The Asbury Park City Council is scheduled to meet Wednesday in council chambers at City Hall. A closed executive session will start at 4:30 p.m., followed by a public workshop session at 6:30 p.m. and the regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting. Items on the agenda include:
• Executive session discussions regarding the City Manager, Director of Communications and Director of Commerce positions.
• Contract negotiation discussions in executive session include a proposed PILOT agreement for the proposed Dollar Store, the Springwood Avenue development lease extension, Carter Sackman’s proposed Savoy Theatre, residential and retail PILOTS, and parking garage, and iStar Financial’s Infrastructure Program Bond agreement.
• The regular session consent agenda items includes special events considerations for the annual September Oysterfest and an extension of concert space for the Stone Pony’s September 19 Shadow of the City event. Organizers would use First Avenue between Ocean and Kingsley as a VIP and vendor staging area, Director of Commerce Tom Gilmour said.
• The City Council will also consider, among other matters, the Springwood Avenue lease agreement extension, improvements to the existing video camera security system within the city, and moving to a hot mix to fill potholes.
• An introduction vote for use of air space within the city’s rights-of-way for an engineering firm at 613 Bangs Avenue will be considered.
• The public will have the opportunity to ask questions and make comments before the final votes for the proposed tax exemption agreement with AP at Monroe Urban Renewal, and easement use within the rights-of-way for Bond Street and Cookman Avenue. The City is formally requesting permission to utilize a portion of Bond Galleries’ property to access a drainage pipe system if repairs are needed. The Cookman Avenue easement request consists of intermittent use to allow a refuse area gates to extend into the public right-of-way when open.
