Police charge seven people in Thursday night fight
Bottles thrown at police sent one officer to hospital
The Asbury Park Police Department charged seven people in connection with a Thursday night fight that left one officer with minor injuries as he tried to disperse the crowd, Acting Police Chief Anthony Salerno said.
Officers responded to a report of a large crowd near 11:20 p.m. along the 10 block of Borden Avenue, Salerno said. Roughly 150 to 200 people were at party at a residence.
Multiple people were engaged in fistfights causing the need to call in for backup. Officers from Bradley Beach and Neptune Township assisted in trying to disperse the crowd, Salerno said.
As police tried to restore order, people in the crowd began throwing bottles at the officers, Salerno said.
Officer Ricky Kirchgessner was struck with a bottle and transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he was treated for a cut to the head. He was released and returned to work Monday, Salerno said.
Those arrested in connection to the incident include:
• Melissa Rosa, 24, of Long Branch; charged with disorderly conduct.
• Ronald Vickers, 30, of Neptune; charged with failure to disperse.
• Louis Sloan, 23, of Asbury Park; charged with obstruction of administration of law.
• Daniel Moore, 27, of Asbury Park; charged with failure to disperse, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer.
• Brittany Moore, 21, of Asbury Park; charged with failure to disperse and resisting arrest.
• Devon Moore, 19, of Asbury Park; charged with failure to disperse, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstruction of administration of law.
• A 17-year-old Neptune resident was also taken into custody, but his identity is being withheld because he is a juvenile.
