A near 3 p.m. fire quickly ravaged through a home on Bergh Street near Second Avenue, according to witnesses.

“The smoke started coming out the left side, ” said Asbury resident Carl Harrison, who placed a 911 emergency call on behalf of the homeowners. “I think that’s where the kitchen is. It came up quickly too.  All of a sudden the porch was on fire.”

Asbury Park Police Department spokesman Michael Casey said the initial call was made by a police officer patrolling the area.

At time of posting, Asbury Park firefighters, assisted by Wanamassa and Neptune fire departments were working to knock down the flames.

The Monmouth County EMS Task Force bus arrived on the scene near 3:30 p.m.

Casey said there are no reported injuries.

Police have closed off portions of Second and Third Avenues.

This is a breaking news story and more information is expected.
