Work to replace the bridge along Main Street that connects Loch Arbour and Interlaken will restart Monday, Monmouth County officials have announced.

Traffic along the bridge over Deal Lake will cease at 7 a.m. and remain restricted until May 2016.

“Utility relocations were performed before Memorial Day 2015, but work was halted during the summer to limit impacts on summer tourism,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Department of Public Works and Engineering. “With the passing of Labor Day, we are now ready to start the bridge reconstruction.”

Arnone said the Monmouth County Public Works division and contractor Precise Construction Inc. of Freehold have been mobilizing resources and putting detour signs in place this week.

The cost of construction is $4,272,984, Arnone said.

The traffic detour is as follows:

Northbound traffic traveling on Main Street [Route 71] will continue onto Deal Lake Drive to Elberon Avenue and then back to Main Street. Southbound traffic will reverse along the same route. Arnone said the signs are posted.

“Motorists should expect travel delays in the area throughout the bridge replacement project,” he said.

Monmouth County maintains approximately 1,000 lane miles of roads, 980 bridges and culverts as well as 250 traffic signals and beacons.
