Storm update: city wide yard sale postponed
Zombie Walk and yard sale will occur Oct. 10
The City-wide Yard Sale has been postponed.
Organizer Connie Breech announced shortly after 3 p.m. that it too will move to the rescheduled October 10 date.
“It’s in the best interest of everyone,” Breech said.
An updated list of locations is expected Monday in case of needed changes due to storm activity.
The yard sale will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Earlier Thursday afternoon Zombie Walk officials postponed the popular event to next Saturday. The line-up and details will remain the same. Events kick off at 10 a.m., with the walk commencing from the boardwalk at 4 p.m. After parties at Johnny Mac’s and the Stone Pony begin at 7 p.m.
While Hurricane Joaquin’s path is still unclear, forecasters say it will most likely hit heaviest Sunday into Monday.
Joaquin has been upgraded into a Category four level storm, meaning sustained winds gusts of a 130 miles per hour.
The 200-mile range storm’s path is likely to stay over the Atlantic Ocean, according to the European forecast.
The National Weather service has issued a flood watch through Sunday afternoon and a high wind watch through Saturday afternoon for Central and South Jersey.
Gov. Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency.

Senator Jennifer Beck (R- Monmouth) said a bill Christie signed into law Thursday to provide affordable gas prices during a state of emergency will take effect immediately.
“I want to thank Governor Christie for signing this bill today,” Beck said. “This legislation allows gas stations to provide motor fuel at the price per gallon or liter of their lowest grade when they only have higher grades left to offer. We shouldn’t have to pay extra when we are vulnerable in the aftermath of disasters, just because there are supply shortages that are out of our control.”

Asbury Park Police Department advises precaution for those within the normal flood areas of Wesley Lake, Deal Lake, Bangs Avenue and Ridge Avenue.
Acting Police Chief Anthony Salerno said notices were sent out to dwelling along the lake areas.
Current forecasts show the nor’easter’s wind gusts could reach up to 45 miles per hour with rain fall totals of up to 10 inches.
As of Thursday morning a coastal flood advisory was issued by the National Weather Service and Joaquin reached a category 3 level ranking. Joaquin is expected to hit our area Sunday night into Monday.
Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Garrett Giberson said although the lakes are being lowered flooding could occur if a deluge occurs within a short period of time.
“Our bigger concern is the sustained northeast winds that will bring higher tides and hinder the lakes ability to drain effectively,” he said.
