Man charged with assaulting Allenhurst Police officer
remanded to Monmouth County Jail in lieu of bail
Zechariah Hubbard, 22, with a last known address in Bloomfield, has been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of a controlled dangerous substance [not having a legal prescription], resisting arrest, hindering his own apprehension [having provided false information], and disorderly conduct by Allenhurst Police.
Allenhurst Police Department spokesman Captain Michael Schneider said they received a report of a suspicious person loitering outside a Main Street business near 8 p.m. Monday.
Upon arrival, police questioned Hubbard, who provided false information and attempted to flee on foot. A brief struggle ensued, resulting in an officer being bloodied during Hubbard’s apprehension.
The Allenhurst First Aid Squad responded to treat the officer and Hubbard was treated for lacerations at police headquarters.
Hubbard was found to be a wanted person, out of Essex County Superior Court, Schneider said. He was remanded to Monmouth County Jail in lieu of a cash only $12,500 bail.
Patrolman Scott Rapolla was the arresting officer, with assistance from Deal Police.
