Current Parking Permits extended to February 1
New rules, fees, & guidelines to be introduced Monday
The Asbury Park Parking Committee has announced that 2015 Parking Permits will extend through February 1, 2016.
Changes to the city’s parking rules are expected to be presented during the City Council’s Workshop meeting on Dec. 7.
Parking permits came to the forefront this year after a March parking study conducted by Manhattan-based Desman Associates, the city’s parking consultant, revealed there were not enough available spaces to accommodate the permits issued.
The City Council voted to immediately suspend guest parking permits and began work to vet the parking study recommendations.
In May, the Parking Committee announced they would not seek a rate increases but said increases should be expected in 2016.
Parking Committee member Councilman Joe Woerner said the committee is still ironing out the details to be presented during the Dec. 7 meeting.
The Committee also is vetting responses to the September Request For Proposals [RFP] it sought for consultants to run different aspects of municipality’s parking utility services, including management, customer service, maintenance, enforcement, technology, and revenue control and enhancement.
The Parking Utility’s 2015 revenue of $2.187 million is up 11 percent from the 2014 revenue of $1.97 million.
Changes to the Parking Permit guidelines will be introduced as an ordinance during the City Council’s Dec. 23 meeting. A final hearing to allow members of the public to ask questions and make comments prior to a final vote will be held on January 13.
Officials said 2016 Parking Permits will go on sale January 15.
