Wednesday night fireworks start with a bang
July Fourth pyrotechnics show a success
Last night’s July Fourth fireworks went off without a hitch, Police Chief Mark Kinmon said this morning.
“It was a great night,” he said, with “probably the biggest crowd we’ve seen here in the last few years for fireworks.”
He estimated the crowd’s size at more than 20,000, and said the cancellation of Red Bank’s annual KaBoom extravaganza probably contributed to the swell in crowd size here.
As far as crowd control, Kinmon said there were “very few problems — a couple of disorderly conduct calls and a couple of noise complaints, things like that.”
Last night’s fireworks marked not only the city’s Independence Day celebration, but also the kickoff to an annual tradition of weekly fireworks shows, held each Wednesday at 9 p.m. and presented by boardwalk redeveloper Madison Marquette. The weekly fireworks are set off from Second and Fourth avenues, and are visible from the whole boardwalk.
