Hotel Tides Joins Local Fight Against Hunger
FoodBank: 1 in 10 Monmouth residents receive food via its network
The Hotel Tides will be running a food drive to benefit the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, located in Neptune.
Starting Wednesday, the hotel will collect nonperishable food items at its Seventh Avenue location between the hours of 4 and 11 p.m., General Manager Ryan Jimenez said.
“This is our first year participating in a food drive, but not our last,” Jimenez said. “It is important to us to be able to give back to our community in any way possible, and encourage others to do the same.”
According to the FoodBank one in every 10 households throughout Monmouth County live below the real cost of living [RCL] $74,287 annual rate for a family of four. Subsequently, one in every 10 people receive “emergency” food from the FoodBank’s network of pantries, soup kitchens and other agencies.
In 2014, the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties served 131,600 individuals, Jimenez said. On the list of most needed items are canned tuna, chicken or salmon [in water]; canned vegetables; brown, wild or white rice; peanut butter and jelly; pasta; canned beans, lentils or peas; and unsalted nuts.
The food drive will run through Jan. 20.
