The year began and ended with the violent death of former Asbury Park football players. Below, a recap of 2015 violent crimes in the city, according to news statements the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office led by Acting Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni:
-JAN 5
Asbury Park police responded to a 911 call around 9:58 p.m. in response to a person being stabbed on Ridge Avenue before entering the Washington Village apartment complex. Prize R. Johnson was found inside Building 1, Apartment 53, at 1259 Washington Avenue, where he died from his injuries at 10:29 p.m. Three days later 24-year-old city resident Tyreek Williams was charged with first degree murder, third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

Off-duty Neptune Township police sergeant Phillip Seidle, 51, allegedly shot and killed his ex-wife Tamara Wilson-Seidle following a car chase that ended with a crash on Sewall Avenue near 11:26 a.m. He was charged with first degree murder, second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and second degree endangering the welfare of a child following a standoff with onsite police officers.

At Approximately 11:24 AM, the Asbury Park Police Department received a 911 call regarding a black male shot at the Prospect Avenue basketball courts near 300 Prospect Avenue. A 23-year-old city resident was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.
-Aug 3
Anthony J. Butts, 21, of Neptune Township was arrested Friday hours after Asbury Park police responded to a stabbing at 1407 Springwood Avenue near 1:10 a.m. on Friday. A 25-year-old man was with multiple stab wounds was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Butts was charged with first degree attempted murder, third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

At approximately 12:37 p.m. Asbury Park police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office immediately responded to 1230 First Avenue where a 20-year-old black male was found on the porch with a gun to his head. After attempting to convince the individual to drop the gun, the man shot himself. Based upon an investigation, police determined the 20-year-old shot a 30-year-old victim who flagged down police working along Asbury Avenue just prior to the standoff. Both individuals, Asbury Park residents, were transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
-Aug 18
Asbury Park police responded near 10:01 p.m. to shots fired along the 1500 block of Summerfield Avenue. A 24-year-old Neptune man was found with a single gunshot wound to his back at 1311 Washington Avenue. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released. Hours later, Elijah ‘Streets’ Graham, 27, of Fairview, NC, was arrested and subsequently charged with charged with first degree attempted murder, second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
-Aug 25
A 17-year-old Asbury Park male sustained a gunshot wound near 10:19 p.m. while riding a bicycle along Springwood Avenue in the area of Atkins Avenue. No charges or arrests have been made.
-Sept 20
Asbury Park patrol officers responded to a report of shots fired along the 1000 block of Bangs Avenue at approximately 2:08 a.m. While at the scene officers learned two 23-year-old city men were taken to a local hospital and were in stable condition.
-NOV 4
At 7:19 p.m., Patrolman Terrence McGhee, on car patrol, at the corner of Springwood and Atkins avenues made an investigatory stop. During a pat down of city resident, Dante Allen, 20, McGhee felt what he believed to be a gun. Allen attempted to flee the scene on foot west on Springwood Ave. He allegedly turned and fired at McGhee who fired back, hitting Allen in the leg. A block away, a bullet pierced through the Borden Avenue home of an 8-year-old girl watching television. She was treated and released from a local hospital. Allen, who was also treated and released from an area hospital, was charged with attempted murder, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
-Dec 20
Asbury Park Police responded to multiple 911 calls at approximately 11:56 a.m. along the 1000 block of Summerfield Avenue. Two men gunshot victims were transported to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, Jamal Small, 24, of Asbury Park, was pronounced deceased at 2:51 p.m. The other victim was treated and released. No charges or arrests have been made.
