A Jackson woman was arrested Friday at the Asbury Park train station for shoplifting at the Ocean Township Target, Ocean Township Police Department spokesman Det. Lt. Timothy R. Torchia said.

She was subsequently found to be a suspect in five other shoplifting cases.

Margaret M. Vannell, 34, is charged with six incidents of shoplifting and one count of drug paraphernalia possession.

Officers responded to the Route 66 store near 6:24 p.m. Friday in response to a shoplifting in progress, Torchia said.

“Once on scene, they learned that the suspect fled the area in a taxi,” he said. “A subsequent investigation by detectives led them to the Asbury Park train station where they located the suspect.”

Vannell was positively identified and placed under arrest.

Detectives Michael Legg and Bryan Morgan’s investigation determined Vannell was a suspect in five other shoplifting cases within Ocean Township,Torchia said.

The Jackson resident was released on a complaint summons and is scheduled to appear at a future court hearing, Torchia said.
