It’s time – The Cold War surfing competition that will bring 16 professional surfers from New Jersey and New York to the Asbury Park shores is set for Friday.
The 4-hour event will kick off some time after 11am at First Avenue beach, organizers say. The start time is flexible but will not start before 11a.m.
The surfers will be divided into two teams, with the winning squad taking home the ice cold “WINTER TAKES ALL” prize.
According to the event website, Team Hammer consists of surfers Pat Schmidt, Conor Willem, Balaram Stack, Sam Hammer, Ben McBrien, Ryan Matthews, Leif Engstrom, and Alex Fawless.
Team Gesler features Rob Kelly, Tommy Ihnken, Andrew Gesler, Mike Gleason, Clay Pollioni, Zack Humphreys, Randy Townsend, and Will Skudin.
Surfline, an online surf forecast website, shows Friday’s primary swells are expected to reach 7.5 feet, tapering off to 6.3 feet by 2 p.m. The surf content provider worked with contest organizers to make the official call for best overall conditions.
A viewing area will be available from the deck of Watermark but the waterfront bar will not open until 2 p.m.
The awards ceremony will be held on the beach immediately following the competition.
