Men charged with copper pipe theft at home they were hired to maintain
A suspicious vehicle investigation near 12:50 p.m. Monday led to the arrest of two New York men hired to maintain a Logan Road home, according to a news release from Ocean Township Police Department spokesman Det. Lt. Timothy R. Torchia.
Nicholas Sanchez, 24, of Staten Island was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and possession of burglary tools. He also was charged with being in possession of drug paraphernalia and of hypodermic syringes
Anthony Moretto, 36, of Richmond, was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools, and possession of a prescription legend drug [Suboxone, a controlled substance used to treat narcotic addiction].
The men were apprehended after patrol officers responded to a suspicious vehicle parked in front of an unoccupied Logan Road home residence on Logan Road.
From the news release:
When officers arrived on location they found that the vehicle in question had already left the area. A short time later the vehicle, a 2002 white Dodge Pickup truck, was observed by Officer Marino parked at a convenience store located on Deal Road. Further investigation revealed that the occupants of the vehicle, later identified as Nicholas Sanchez and Anthony Moretto, were found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, officers also located a significant amount of copper piping in the back of the Dodge pickup. It was later determined that the pipe was stolen from the crawl space area of the residence on Logan Road. The investigation also revealed that Sanchez and Moretto worked for a company that had been contracted by a bank to maintain the home due to a recent foreclosure. Both subjects were subsequently taken into custody and transported to the station for further processing.
The men were released on a criminal summons, pending future court appearances. Patrolmen Dean Schoch and Dave Marino, Sgt. Matthew Jackiewicz, Det. Bryan Morgan and Michael Legg, and Det. Sgt. Gregory Tongring were the officers involved.
The police department also reports that a 10:25 p.m. April 12 motor vehicle stop at the Middlebrook Apartment Complex led to the drug possession arrest of a Toms River man and woman.
Lisa Rowely, 29, was charged with possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of hypodermic syringes.
Dylan Collier, 30, was charged with possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of hypodermic syringes, and being under the influence.
From the news release:
Further investigation revealed that the occupants of the vehicle later identified as Lisa Rowley and Dylan Collier were in possession of 45 bags of heroin, marijuana under 50 grams, various pieces of drug paraphernalia and hypodermic syringes. Both were taken into custody and subsequently transported to the station for processing.
The pair were released on a criminal complaint, pending a future court appearance. Detectives Michael Legg and Raheem Carter, and Sgt. Greg Tongring were the officers involved.
