Urban Composting workshop in honor of Earth Day
Asbury Fresh hosts 6:30 p.m. Friday tutorial at Cowerks on Lake Ave
In honor of Earth Day, Move For Hunger and Asbury Fresh have partnered with Hello Chef’s Dan Vogt to host an Urban Composting Workshop to help educate the public on the best practices for reducing the amount of organic waste that ends up in landfills
Held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Cowerks on Lake Avenue, the workshop is not only a tutorial on home composting basics, but also offers ways to keep food fresher, longer, organizers said. Participants will be given the tools to understand sell-by and expiration dates, thereby reducing food waste at home.
Local resident Dan Vogt [at right] of Hello Chef will demonstrate techniques and recipes that can help reduce food waste. In addition to being a food writer, wellness coach, and culinary educator, Vogt works with professional athletes, celebrities, busy executives, and families to create healthy and nutritional regimens.
Hello Chef, located in Long Branch, features wholesome, fresh, gluten-free foods.
The $45 fee includes a complementary counter top composting container, courtesy of Full Circle Home.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Move For Hunger’s national nonprofit hunger relief initiatives that collects unwanted, unopened, non-perishable food items and deliver them to local food banks.
To date, Move For Hunger has delivered more than 6 million pounds of food by working with over 600 movers throughout the United States and Canada.
Cowerks is located at 619 Lake Avenue on the 3rd Floor of the Lakehouse building. To register or for more information, visit Move For Hunger’s web page.
