Shoplifter makes burglary attempt after arrest
Second apprehension of the day yields drug possession charge
An Ocean Township man arrested Thursday for shoplifting at a Family Dollar store on Route 35 was taken back into custody after police spotted him attempting to burglarize a Deal Road home.
David Shank, 30, taken into custody near 7:30 p.m., was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a news release issued by Ocean Township Police Department spokes Det. Lt. Timothy R. Torchia.
He was processed and released on criminal complaint, with a pending court appearance.
But shortly following his release, Ocean Detectives Michael Melody and Jesse Orbach spotted the township resident walking on Deal Road.
From the news release:
Moments after observing him they noticed Shank run up to a residence. Both Detectives exited their vehicle and located Shank in the rear of the home actively attempting to gain entry. He was once again taken into custody without incident and transported to the station for processing. At the station police located a prescription pill bottle containing Prescription Legend Drugs with (12) Xanax pills that was concealed on his person.
Shank was subsequently charged with attempted burglary, criminal mischief, and possession of prescription legend drugs.
He was remanded to Monmouth County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash only bail, set by Municipal Court Judge Louis Garippo Jr.
