The holiday weekend winds down Monday with the Annual Memorial Day recognition for armed service men and women who died while serving the country.
The Asbury Park Fire Department hosts a service at 9 a.m. in Fireman’s Park on Sunset Avenue. The service includes a reading of the department’s deceased member’s names, according to a news release.
Main Street Hardware Store owner Sam Vaccaro flower donations will be planted in Fireman’s Park. This year, benches dedicated to Vaccaro’s parents were refurbished with supplies he donated.
VFW Harold Daley Post No. 1333’s annual Memorial Day ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in Veteran’s Memorial Park on Fifth Avenue.
From 9 a.m. to noon members of the post will join representatives from the County Sherriff’s Office at Monmouth Mall [Route 35] to provide information on the various programs available to veterans.
Triumphant Life’s 5-day long Memorial Day Carnival in Bradley Park winds down Monday. The carnival is features rides and carnival fare.
City offices are closed Monday.
At 5 p.m. indie folk rockers Eileen and the In-Betweens [at right] perform at Trinity Church [503 Asbury Ave] as part of church’s Asbury Park Social Justice Initiative.
The performance is part of the Albuquerque-based group’s Truth and Beauty East Coast Anti-Nuke tour.
Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Eileen Shaughnessy, an educator at University of New Mexico, crafts songs that address feminism, racial justice, and concern for the earth.
This event is free for gay and gender nonconforming youth in recognition of Queer Indie Folk initiative. A recommended $10 entrance donation will go toward the church’s Food Justice program.
