Downtown permitted uses, municipal budget, Sunset Avenue pavilion among items on agenda
Headlining Wednesday night’s city council meeting at 7 p.m. is a hearing on the 2012 municipal budget. The plan features total general approprations of $40.2 million, with a municipal tax levy increase of $3.5 million. Click here for a copy of the budget.
At the 6 p.m. workshop session, redevelopment and planning director Donald Sammet will present the following: a redevelopment entity review for the Sunset Avenue Pavilion; an update on the upcoming construction at the former Metropolitan Hotel site; and a possible update on amendments to the central business district zoning rules. The council is also slated to discuss a charter study commission for a possible change in government. Click here for additional details on the charter study commission.
The council is also expected to discuss a taxi commission ordinance, revised special event fees, a request for handicapped parking in town and the possibility of smoke-free public recreation areas.. The Monmouth Cancer Coalition visited a March council meeting to propose the smoke-free public areas. Details on that meeting can be found by clicking here.
Also, the Asbury Park Historical Society’s secretary, Dolly Sternesky, said today members of the group will speak at the meeting about the historic copper panels that were reported stolen last August after they were removed from the sides of Convention Hall for maintenance on the building.
