Asbury Park School District inducted 15 students into its newly created Dream Academy Early College Program Monday morning at the Dr. Martin King Jr Middle School.

The inaugural class will kick off the 2016-2017 school year by participating in a dual curriculum that allows each student to obtain a Brookdale Community College Associate’s Degree and a high school diploma at the time of graduation.

Superintendent Lamont Repollet has said the comprehensive dual study program will not only allow students to get a jump start on their college career but will help relieve the financial costs.Dream Academy 2

The advanced placement students include: Tiana Barnes, Nya Benjamin, Ashlee A. Betanco, Brooke S. Cottman, Natasha Z. Crenshaw, Bryan Cruz, De’Jia Dawkins, Kobe Miller, E’Naih Preston, Kayla Steward, Eliyah Tulley, Ana Vasquez-Machuca, Evelyn Villa-Carrasco, Marcus Weston and Micah A. Wright.

Earlier this month, the district launched its College Promise Program, an initiative that will allow students to begin garnering Brookdale Community College credits in the 11th grade.

The College Promise program includes a wide range of academic enrichment courses, career workshops, college preparatory courses and mentorship opportunities designed to help students succeed at the college level and beyond. Officials said parents will also be required to attend orientation sessions.

The program, which also begins next school year, will be funded over the next three years by the Jules L. Plangere, Jr., Family Foundation through a $240,000 grant made to the Brookdale Community College Foundation.
