Municipal Happenings
Summer Concert, Beach Bonfire Shift, and Downtown Parking Outlined
A reminder that the Asbury Park City Council Monday night Workshop meeting has been canceled. City officials have said the 7 p.m. Regular session meeting will include a workshop session.
The cancelation was done to encourage participation at the kick off to the Levitt AMP Monday night concert series at Springwood Avenue Park [at right]. Mayor John Moor said it is the first time in many years that live music will return to the west side.
Administered by The Asbury Park Music Foundation, the free concerts will be held from 6 to 8 pm. Mondays through August 29 in the newly created Springwood Avenue Park, located between Atkins and Union avenues.
The schedule includes:
6/27: Gedeon Luke and the People (soul)
7/4: Wimbash (members of Living Color) and Lakehouse Junior Pros (rock)
7/11: the Mayor’s Players (aka the Kevin Sanders Band) and DP Ensemble featuring Dorian Parreott (jazz)
7/18: TBA
7/25: Quincy Mumford and the Reason Why and the Asbury Park High School Band (funk)
8/1: Dr Cheeko and the Island Sound, and Random Test (reggae)
8/8: Monterosa Band, and Karen Lee and Sympathetic Resinance (Latin)
8/15: the FLOW Show (groove and pop)
8/22: Gary US Bonds (oldies)
8/29: Harlem Teens Choir (gospel)
As we head into the Fourth of July weekend when the city experiences an uptick in visitors, city officials have organized a downtown parking regulations reminder.
The bulletin outlines hourly rates and parking hours and guidelines for the Bangs Avenue parking garage [at right], the municipal parking lot on Main Street between Bangs and Mattison avenues, the adjacent Transportation Center, and the Memorial Drive parking lot, between Springwood and Mattison Avenues.
Beach Bonfire makes a shift this week.
The weekly Friday night event moves to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the First Avenue Beach near MOGO. The bonfires will be held at this new night and location through August.
