Fifth Avenue Band Shell, 2015 Municipal Audit, and Transportation Planner post on agenda
The Asbury Park City Council is scheduled to meet Wednesday in council chambers at City Hall.
The 7 p.m. Regular Council meeting is preceded by a 5 p.m. closed executive session. Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting.
City officials warn that air conditioning in council chambers is not working and those vulnerable to the heat should use caution.
Items on the agenda include:
• Executive session discussions include amendments to the city’s Waterfront Redevelopment Agreement [WRA] and the sale of a portion of Overlook Park to a neighboring business owner. The portion of the park, informally known as Kennedy Park, is currently being utilized for parking.
• The governing body is expected discuss workers potential tax lien litigation as well as worker’s compensation cases involving employees William Gray and Jason Fazio, as well as its personnel policy.
• The 7 p.m. Regular Session meeting will include a tribute to Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jackie Pappas, who will leave her post at summer’s end, and proclamations supporting Garden State Equality’s move to Asbury Park and recognizing Chelsie Kay for her tenure as the city’s Community Development Initiative liaison with AmeriCorps VISTA.
• There will be a presentation prior to the vote on acceptance of the 2015 municipal audit.
• The City Council is expected to vote on special event and wedding applications, budgetary matters, transportation lease agreements, a $1,000 annual shared service agreement with Loch Arbor relating to use of the city’s Tax Assessor Office, and a $30,000 settlement of a worker’s compensation claim with William Gray.
• There will be a vote determining authorization of a person to person plenary retail liquor license transfer pertaining to Main Street Liquors, located at 1002 Main St. The proposed transfer will go to Hemmings at Asbury, LLC.
• The governing body, in its role as the city’s redevelopment authority will vote on Madison Marquette’s proposed Fifth Avenue Pavilion and Band Shell reconstruction.
• The also will vote on Interfaith Neighbor’s proposed affordable housing project at 147 Borden Avenue, which consists of two family duplex rentals for low to moderate income residents.
New ordinances being introduced include:
• A property improvement and neighborhood preservation amendment, which outlines standards rental property landlords must adhere to in order to preserve the the peace and tranquility for its year round residents.
• A bond appropriation increase of $150,000 to be allotted for the reconstruction of Sunset Lake Footbridge, damaged during Superstorm Sandy.
• And, the creation of a salary table for the proposed Transportation Planner and Social Services Director positions, a maximum of $90,000 and $95,216, respectively.
• The public will have an opportunity to ask questions and make comments prior to the final vote pertaining to angle parking along Deal Lake.
