National Night Outs, Exhibit #9 art talk, and Nonprofit grants on list
Community related news, announcements and events:
National Night Out events are being held Tuesday evening in Asbury Park, Deal, Ocean Township and Neptune. The free event was created as a way for law enforcement and their support agencies to unite with the public, local business, youth and other local organizations in order to heighten a community’s awareness of crime and drug prevention initiatives, said Asbury Park National Night Out organizer Sgt. Terry Williams [shown at right in feature photo]. Congressman Frank Pallone is expected to attend the city’s event, happening from 5 to 8 p.m. in the municipal lot, located at 1 Municipal Plaza. ART:
Linda Zacks kicks off Exhibit No. 9’s ElectriCity Artist Talk Series, to be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cookman Avenue gallery. Zacks’ work is described as one that ‘percolates from the tangible grime that is the oozy texture of New York City. It is about the cacophony of whooping sirens and grinding metal. Her words form a rhythmic latin hustle, pimp strutting with meaning and experiences, setting one up for that same sort of woozy swoon one feels when roaming the streets around Times Square. Tension. Calamity.’ Her work has been featured in limited edition books in the MoMA Design Store and The International Center of Photography. Aa a former VH1.com Design Director, she created campaigns for Broadway, Sony, Adobe and The Sundance Film Festival. Exhibit No. 9 is located at 550-102 Cookman Ave.
