Jersey Shore Dream Center organizes Serve24
Random Acts of Kindness, Giveaways, meals and music a part of campaign
Labor Day, as its name suggests, is a day of rest for laborers. It’s origins date back to 1882 as a mission to honor the American Labor Movement.
Today, the holiday is celebrated as a long weekend that unofficially punctuates the end of summer, especially for tourists communities like Asbury Park and the wider Jersey Shore tourist areas.
But for the Jersey Shore Dream Center, this weekend will have little to do with rest and more to do with giving back in and around Asbury Park.
From 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, their Serve24 campaign volunteers will be participating in a variety of activities throughout the city.
The Jersey Shore Dream Center is comprised of a community of volunteers working to help meet the needs of Jersey Shore residents living under the poverty line and battling life controlling issues.
“In light of recent events, we feel it’s important to unite the very unique demographics that reside in Asbury, organizers said. “We’ll be doing things like school backpack drives, handing out food and water to community members and police officers, and organizing barbecues and music concerts.”
The 24 hour period also will be filled with assignments like an Adopt-a-Block campaign in the Bradley Sales neighborhood, a free concert and dinner at Springwood Park, a 3 a.m. prayer walk and 4 a.m. Asbury Park Police Department random act of kindness.
