Asbury Booskerdoo hosts Customer Appreciation Day
Free Coffee, bakery samples, & $1 Espresso Drinks all day Saturday
In celebrating their first week in Asbury Park, Booskerdoo Fresh Roasted Coffee and Baking Co. will host a customer appreciation event all day Saturday.
The Grand Opening event will include free drip coffee and bakery samples, as well as $1 espresso drinks, owners Amelia and James Caverly said.
The couple’s flagship store opened Friday [Oct. 7] at the north end of the newly refurbished shopping center on Memorial Drive that houses recently opened Soul Kraft Ink Art, Local 130 Seafood market, Shape Shop boutique fitness center, and Parkemoor high end furniture and decor.
“It’s a way for us to introduce ourselves to the community and say thank you for the great first week,” James Caverly said. “Our first week was better than we expected and we already have some regulars. We are so appreciative.”
Booskerdoo opened in 2011 at the 36 Beach Road in Monmouth Beach. They independent cafe has since expanded into six locations, with its products sold online and to close to 20 retailers and other cafes.
The Memorial Drive and Sunset Avenue location will serve the roasting and baking needs for the online sales, retail distribution, and Monmouth Beach, Fair Haven, Long Branch, Holmdel, and Matawan locations.
Behind the scenes, Amelia Caverly heralds the bakery, while James Caverly works in tandem with master roaster Michael Costaney.
James Caverly said any reservations about expanding was put to rest by the ‘smart and talented employees’ that help deliver their scratch made bakery products and house roasted coffee varietals.
“We do a lot of special orders,” Caverly said. “That is a big part of why we needed the bigger space. We never advertised for fear of overextending ourselves, but now we can really accept all orders and increase production.”
At any time, one can find 8 to 10 coffee varietals at Booskerdoo cafes, and over 15 online. Special bake and coffee orders are typically filled within 24 to 36 hours, he said.
Booskerdoo has made a name for itself by offering an array of blends fit to satisfy any palate. There’s the Black and Tan, Jersey Diner, and After Dark Fair Trade blends that are sourced from an array of specialty grade, organic, and rainforest alliance certified farms.
Avid coffee drinkers with an affinity for the strong brew will be drawn to Booskerdoo’s Neon – a half capp half milk offering; and Serious Black – a powerful Americana blend of half espresso half hot water.
Aside from Saturday’s customer appreciation, Booskerdoo will host a November holiday kick off, complete with free tastings of products offered for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Items like their rustic apple, salted caramel crisp, and can free pumpkin pie will be available for sampling.
“All the bakery items are scratch made daily,” Amelia Caverly said. “Pies were the first things I started baking and how I fell in love with baking.”
To honor that foundation, an array mini rustic pies will be offered. Also new is the venue’s croissant, made possible by a new machine that enables a lighter, flakier product. The menu also offers everything from granola bars to frittata sandwiches on their homemade focaccia bread.
Asbury Booskerdoo sun lit space boasts high ceilings, 20 seats, and an open view to their production. The mural art wall was done by baker Erin Devlin, a three year employee and the featured photographs were obtained courtesy of production director James Kilker, also employed with the duo for three years.
“All of what is going on here, we could not have done without our employees,” Caverly said.
